The Sealaska board of directors announced their endorsement of Mark Begich for U.S. Senate; Byron Mallott for Governor of the State of Alaska; and Sam Kito III as Representative for House District 32.
The core Native values that guide Sealaska’s activities include Haa Latseen, which is Tlingit for our strength and leadership. As Sealaska works on innovative solutions to economic development and healthy communities, candidates who can best lead the charge to prosperity earn Sealaska’s support. This was the basis for Sealaska’s endorsement of Lisa Murkowski in 2010.
The qualities of each candidate that earned Sealaska’s 2014 endorsement include the seniority and effectiveness of U.S. Senator Mark Begich; the long term involvement in rural and Native issues and the business acumen of Byron Mallott; and the representation on Southeast and Alaska Native issues that Sam Kito III brings to the Alaska State Legislature.
